HCC Internship
Our HCC Internship will help create your Legacy! One of the hardest things about breaking into the coding world is experience. To get a job, employers want experience. To get experience, you need a job. To break the cycle Legacy Education is now offering an HCC internship to help you gain valuable experience. This HCC internship is free to students who complete our coding program, become certified, and complete Practicode.
Apply new Risk Adjustment (HCC) coding skills in a risk-free environment and get guided feedback – so you can make mistakes before they matter. See where your current skills stand to uncover your strengths and weaknesses and get details that you can take to employers, including your coding accuracy in coding assignments for ICD-10-CM by completing this simulated client experience in either commercial based guidelines or Medicare guidelines, using different documentation requirements such as M.E.A.T, T.A.M.P.E.R., and S.O.A.P.
An HCC is a category of chronic medical conditions that share similar cost patterns. It is closely tied to profitability.
For example, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, breast and prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and depressive disorder are all individual HCCs.
The model is hierarchical because many disease states have different levels of severity. For instance, diabetes with complications has a different HCC code than diabetes without complications. While patients may have multiple HCCs based on different manifestations of a disease, the model ensures that they will be assigned the HCC that reflects the most severe disease state. HCCs do not roll over to the next plan year and must be documented and re-submitted each year.
Our internship is done remotely, completely online. The coach assigned to you during your course continues to support you during your HCC internship. We help with any questions that arise and you continue to get the 1:1 coaching you’ve grown to expect with Legacy. The internship generally takes about 4 months to complete, but its self-paced so you can go faster or slower. The internship must be completed within 1 year from your start date.
No! The HCC internship is available for CPC Legacy Education Alumni. We do not offer this program to anyone but Legacy Education students as it is our commitment to making sure you have the advantage when searching for a job.
